Collaborative research and evidence-based policy evaluation
The SA-TIED programme will host a policy dialogue in Pretoria to discuss the value of collaborative research between policy makers and independent experts in developing improved monitoring, evaluation, and innovation in the area of fiscal policy tools for inclusive economic development to be attended by the policy making community within South Africa's economic cluster.
Event description:
Building evidence through research is fundamental to the effective delivery and implementation of public policies. Within the SA-TIED programme, a number of papers have used tax data to better understand the impact and unintended consequences of elements of tax policy. This includes work on the Employment Tax Incentive, the Research and Development Incentive, small business taxes, and value-added tax among others. The findings present critical insights for policy-makers and should set a precedent in terms of how policy performance is examined to avoid wasteful expenditure.
